Note:
If you plan on using a theme, remember that a little touch goes a long way. For instance for an ocean theme, a touch of shell-covered lamp or nets up as curtains would be interesting.
If you are stuck and not sure what kind of theme to use, you can look around and observe what are your favourite colors or elements. Lets say you love earth tone colors with lotsa of green, a Tropical or Resort styled theme is suitable.
If you prefer certain kind of cool slick furniture made of metals and glass, a Futuristic theme would be suitable and find complimentary colors to match them that. A color wheel would be useful in this case.
If you have a certain piece of painting you love, you can even also build your theme around it. The possibilities are endless. :)
